Later on at the Night Safari Isla got to pat a snake :-)
But back to the zoo.....
We were lucky to have seen everything, including the Tiger who apparently ate someone recently, before the sky opened and it poured! So we headed next door to the River Safari, name was a little misleading as we didn't actually go on a river, it was an interesting (and convienently covered) walkway sort of like an aquarium, with some Pandas borrowed from China chucked in.
Needless to say when we saw Panda baozi (steamed buns) in the cafe, we had to try.... Unless you have been to China you probably can't imagine our surprise to discover it was filled with chocolate custard! Delish!
Mia's highlight was the squirrel monkeys at the River Safari, they were pretty cute. But as the on duty monkey wrangler told us, they do bite when people do "dumb ass" things.
After the River Safari we popped next door to the Night Safari and had some very nice Indian for dinner before donning our plastic ponchos and heading out in a wee tram to see what animals get up to at night. We learned that a lot of animals take shelter at night when it's raining with thunder and lightening - smart. The ride took 40mins and was no flash photography allowed. Luke started nodding off towards the end so at 9pm we called it a day and splurged on a taxi home.
